New music and four other finds

Five Finds is a monthly collection of five inspiring things we deemed worthy of sharing. If you’d like inspiration in your inbox each month sign up here.

Newsletter update

If you read the previous edition of Five Finds you might not be expecting this one. Last month – on the back of a very busy time in the studio – I took some time to reflect on this newsletter, its content and purpose and asked for your feedback. And boy did you lot deliver!

The number of emails I received in response was inspiring and heart-warming and the key message from everyone was to not change a thing. Subscribers loved the bite-sized information, variety of content and the frequency of emails.

So there won’t be drastic change after all. The content will stay largely the same with a few design tweaks but I’m going to promote the email more and I’d ask you to share it too. If there’s someone you know who would like some inbox inspiration please let them know. I’d love to grow the following and get more people seeing five things each month to inspire them.

Thanks for all your comments, kind words and encouragement. Normal service resumes below.

Cool Again restorations

If you’d told me last week that I’d be promoting a 20 minute video of hands meticulously restoring individual nuts and bolts with a no-dialogue, pleasing ASMR-style soundtrack I’d have laughed. But the truth is the enigmatic David (owner of Cool Again restorations) has me and my three year-old totally addicted.

The paper poppy

The Royal British Legion’s iconic poppy has been redesigned by Matter to remove all plastic, making it 100% recyclable at home. The new design will be available in October 2023.

Gone but not forgotten

This is one for the bookmarks. Studiographica is set to be ‘a home for some of the greatest design and branding studios who are no longer with us’. A digital archive of some of the best work from some of the best know names of recent design history. I can’t wait to see it grow.

A youthful rethink for a centuries-old institution

The University of Oxford is a world-renowned institution that produces around 13,000 sought-after graduates every year. But while Oxford is a globally recognised name, it was struggling to keep its new alumni interested. Research by the Alumni Relations Office showed their marketing just wasn’t ticking the boxes for Millenial and Gen Z leavers — leading to a lack of engagement with alumni services and gaps in their feedback about student life. Oxford needed to recapture alumni attention. So they came to us.
